English Toy Terriers at the show
Our English Toy Terriers compete successfully in dog shows. In this event the dogs are to be purebred and are judged on there movement, temperament and stance and overall confirmation. Despite the fact they are terriers they compete in the toy category. At Antrimlodge we have been successful in many shows, with lots of multi class group winners. For one of our girls "Antrimlodge Don't Stop Me Now" has won a number of Neuter in Show as well as Runner up in show. To find out more about our show team visit the ETTs show team section.
About the breed
English Toy Terriers are a small bred generally averaging around 10"-12" in height and weighing 4-6kgs, with a life expectancy of 13 years. They are Black and Tan only, with a glossy non-shedding coat. ETTS are athletic dogs that love adventure which means they require to be walked at least 3 days a week.
They are generally good with other animals, but its important to note they were bred for mouse / rat hunting so if you are a mouse/rat (or similar) owner this breed won't suit you. Due to the breed being short coated that like to live indoors they will require a rug or blanket to keep them warm in the cooler weather.
Attitude and Temperament
English Toy Terriers are an alert, active, and loyal breed. They are a amazing breed for families as they love human companionship and are excellent around children. Initially these dogs may also be standoffish with new people but are not aggressive, and once they get to know that person they will be friendly.
History and origin
English Toy Terriers date back in history to the 16th century to the original English Black and Tan Terrier. They gained tremendous popularity in the Victorian era mainly in the English Rat Pits. An incredible ETT named Tiny, weighing only 2.5kg, killed 300 rats in 50 minutes and 50 seconds
